There was a constant stream of content, all free for Blizzard, all talking about 'How to prepare for patch 7.2' or 'Awesome things that are coming' or 'How X is going to work' and all of it free.

Look at all the videos that were out from these pre-release servers. PTR, and Public Beta, are now about marketing. Not convinced they picked the best choices, but they definitely changed things and iterated quickly. Truth is many issues won't come out until you have millions of players on live trying to do things versus hundreds of people not really caring on PTR, so I think blizz is shifting to a 'make sure nothing is game breakingly broken on PTR, push it live, and fix/change things over the first week or so on live' which is totally fine, as long as they are reasonably quick to iterate and make changes on live.Īnd I think they've done a better job than usual making changes quickly than in the past, as with nether shard farming and mob ilvl scaling. If you won't personally do it, you can't expect others will. The next time anyone wonders why there are bugs on live that weren't caught in PTR, ask yourself wether or not you spent any appreciable amount of time testing the PTR and submitting bug reports, and that will probably give you your answer as to why it wasn't fixed on PTR. It isn't surprising things get missed, since no one really tests most things there because PTR testing is a thankless task. It is almost universally cutting edge raid teams looking for an advantage on the next raid tier, youtubers trying to get footage and content for their channels, and people logging on for 15 minutes to test changes. I think the key is how few people actually log on to PTR to test.
